This is the hardest part of writing this entire page... is so difficult!.
Well, I'm a Spanish painter, born in Málaga and since I was a child I have experienced and I have been trained in Fine Arts. My career has gone in a discontinuous way, although I have always been associated with art in an active way.
Being born in Malaga and living in Granada the art has always been around me.
My formation has always been self-taught. From very young I watched my father painting with oil, he was the one that inculcated me in a very subtle way the love for the art. While I grew I practiced his teachings, until a time when I needed to experience with new techniques and styles. Since then: exhibitions, contests and commissions mark the rest of my career.
My other way to expressing me artistically is the digital creation. For many years I experience with 2D and 3D generation, and artistic web design. A sample of this activity is this site, and many of the images that I have created you can be seen in my other gallery: www.rizquez.com
Not just a Technique
As you have been able to read above, my beginning was as oil painter, but I can tell you a anecdote: in 1986, during my military obligatory service, I was asked to participate in a competition of emblems among barracks. As materials they just offered me a few cans of industrial lacquer paint (just primary colors) and a wooden board. I had to adapt me and to try to make it the best possible.
I loved the result, but it was very difficult to learn the new system mixing of colors, to the ultra quick drying and the particular texture of this type of painting. Of course, we won !!
Since then great part of my work is based on this type of so particular painting. It's much more immediate that oil, doesn't admit corrections and the number of colors that you can obtain it's much more limited, but it compensates the obtained brightness, the brilliant and glossy finish that give to every painting a clarity that neither of others: oil or acrylic can get.
In these moments I love to alternate among these three techniques, so different, but that cover all my necessities like painter capturing my ideas.
Not just a Style
I've been painting almost forty years and during this time I have developed many different ways when translating my art.
I've always admired to the Masters, I've studied a lot about them and their works, I think that that is evident when you observe my work. Goya, Velázquez, Sorolla, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Warhol, Dalí, Richard Estes; all they have left their unmistakable mark in the way I paint.
I consider that my style is the resultant of the sum of other many, so many as I admire. As you see: Realism, Pop Art, Impressionism, ... ; in my paintings there is something of all of them. Even in my first times I was influenced for the surrealism.
The intense colours that I use are brilliant to create moods and atmospheres that express what my mind see, as so aptly said Henri Matisse in the next quote:
My choice of colors does not rest on any scientific theory.Henri Matisse
I simply try to put down colors which render my sensations.

My choice of colors does not rest on any scientific theory.
I simply try to put down colors which render my sensations.
I dream my painting and I paint my dream.
No great artist ever sees things as they really are.
If he did, he would cease to be an artist.
I want to reach that condensation of sensations that constitutes a picture.
We have art in order not to die of the truth.
Every artist dips his brush in his own soul,
and paints his own nature into his pictures.
I don't paint things.
I only paint the difference between things.
Art is the only serious thing in the world.
And the artist is the only person who is never serious.
Everything you can imagine is real.
A painter should begin every canvas with a wash of black,
because all things in nature are dark except where exposed by the light.
There are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence,
transform a yellow spot into sun
HOW TO COMMISSION A PAINTING
Now you know the results, you know how I paint. Imagine your favorite motive and tailor-made for you. It is my pleasure to help you with placing a high quality original painting in your home or business.
It's so easy to do! If there is a painting you like from this website, that perhaps is no longer available, or one that you'd like in a different size, or maybe in different colors, you can order one specially made for you, directly from the artist! I love doing commissions for my clients. It is a delightful experience to give you exactly what you're looking for.
Learn how to commission a painting in these easy four steps. For further information on how to buy art you can read my FAQ section.
One day you decide, "Hey, I want a painting made especially for me. I want Socrates to do it!"
A. Where do you plan on hanging your new painting?: Are you going to renew your art collection with special works? Is the new painting intended for a certain spot?
B. What size works best for you?: Do you need a portrait or landscape orientation? Portrait is vertical where the art is taller than it is wide. Landscape is horizontal where the image is wider than it is tall. We have found that cutting a piece of paper or folding a sheet and pinning it to your wall will allow you to decide what the ideal size is for your space.
There is no size that I cannot do! I have been commissioned to paint pictures of considerable size. Size is no obstacle.
C. How much money do you plan to invest?: I will do my best to work within your budget. Of course size does dictate the cost; however, first decide the perfect piece and then let us see just how inventive we can become in helping you commission your ideal painting or paintings.
A. You can browse through this website to view an extensive collection of Socrates's work. I think it can help you choose your own picture.
B. Select one painting, or elements from several that catch your eye. You'll know when you see it! I can paint you a special painting combining all the elements you like into one unique original!
C. Do you feel strongly that certain colors or shades of color should be included in the painting? If so be sure to let me know.
D. If you have special requirements or you have a specific design of your own, please don't hesitate to contact me and I will endeavour to meet your requirements.
A. You complete the form on this page and express your preferences and settings. I will ask you some questions regarding your needs. Consultations are usually completed within two or three conversations with me.
B. You can show me some example of a painting that you would want your commissioned painting to emulate. A picture tells 1,000 words, right?! I will never plagiarize, but giving me examples of what you like will enable me to determine how I will fine tune my own style and artistic ability to meet your need. No written or oral description that you deliver to me will ever as effectively convey to me what you want as will a picture.
C. After this process I can provide you a proposal with pricing information and an estimated completion date. Usually, the proposal will contain a sketch of the painting-to-be. Any changes to be made to the sketch can be negotiated in a follow-up consultation.
D. Each proposal will include the up-front costs of the 50% of the total amount that you will incur should you accept the commission. Up-front costs serve as a security deposit for your commission. Security deposits are non-refundable.
A. If you agree to accept my proposal, then I will begin your painting immediately after receiving the security deposit as outlined in your proposal. When the painting is completed, I will take a picture of it and send it to you. Your satisfaction is guaranteed! If there are any changes you would like made, this would be the time to do it!
B. Then, you decide upon how you would like your painting delivered. If for some reason, you decide not to accept the commission, you will either forego your security deposit or choose to apply it toward another painting.
C. In only a few days you will be able to hang your new Socrates masterpiece on your wall for generations to enjoy!
