About Me
and my Art

The Beginning

This is the hardest part of writing this entire page... is so difficult!.

Well, I'm a Spanish painter, born in Málaga and since I was a child I have experienced and I have been trained in Fine Arts. My career has gone in a discontinuous way, although I have always been associated with art in an active way.

Being born in Malaga and living in Granada the art has always been around me.

My formation has always been self-taught. From very young I watched my father painting with oil, he was the one that inculcated me in a very subtle way the love for the art. While I grew I practiced his teachings, until a time when I needed to experience with new techniques and styles. Since then: exhibitions, contests and commissions mark the rest of my career.

My other way to expressing me artistically is the digital creation. For many years I experience with 2D and 3D generation, and artistic web design. A sample of this activity is this site, and many of the images that I have created you can be seen in my other gallery: www.rizquez.com

Not just a Technique

As you have been able to read above, my beginning was as oil painter, but I can tell you a anecdote: in 1986, during my military obligatory service, I was asked to participate in a competition of emblems among barracks. As materials they just offered me a few cans of industrial lacquer paint (just primary colors) and a wooden board. I had to adapt me and to try to make it the best possible.

I loved the result, but it was very difficult to learn the new system mixing of colors, to the ultra quick drying and the particular texture of this type of painting. Of course, we won !!

Since then great part of my work is based on this type of so particular painting. It's much more immediate that oil, doesn't admit corrections and the number of colors that you can obtain it's much more limited, but it compensates the obtained brightness, the brilliant and glossy finish that give to every painting a clarity that neither of others: oil or acrylic can get.

In these moments I love to alternate among these three techniques, so different, but that cover all my necessities like painter capturing my ideas.

Not just a Style

I've been painting almost forty years and during this time I have developed many different ways when translating my art.

I've always admired to the Masters, I've studied a lot about them and their works, I think that that is evident when you observe my work. Goya, Velázquez, Sorolla, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Warhol, Dalí, Richard Estes; all they have left their unmistakable mark in the way I paint.

I consider that my style is the resultant of the sum of other many, so many as I admire. As you see: Realism, Pop Art, Impressionism, ... ; in my paintings there is something of all of them. Even in my first times I was influenced for the surrealism.

The intense colours that I use are brilliant to create moods and atmospheres that express what my mind see, as so aptly said Henri Matisse in the next quote:

My choice of colors does not rest on any scientific theory.
I simply try to put down colors which render my sensations.
